You Do Not Have to Navigate VA Benefits Alone
DAV is dedicated to empowering veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity. That mission also extends to the families, caregivers, and survivors who stand beside them.
If you are helping a veteran with VA paperwork, caring for a veteran, or trying to understand benefits after a veteran has passed away, DAV Chapter 4 Tucson is here to help you find a clearer path forward.
We cannot guarantee VA decisions or outcomes. What we can do is listen, explain the process in plain language, help identify forms and documents, and support you as you move forward.
VA Letters, Forms, and Paperwork
If you received a VA letter and do not understand what it means, bring it with you. We can help you read through it, identify deadlines or next steps, and organize the documents you may need.
How DAV Chapter 4 Tucson Can Help Families and Survivors
Our Chapter Service Officers help spouses, families, caregivers, and survivors understand VA benefits and paperwork related to:
Dependency and Indemnity Compensation
Dependency and Indemnity Compensation, often called DIC, is a VA survivor benefit for certain eligible surviving spouses, children, or parents. We can help you understand what DIC is, what paperwork may be needed, and how to begin.
Survivors Pension and Accrued Benefits
Some surviving spouses or dependent children may be eligible for VA Survivors Pension or accrued benefits. We can help you review VA letters, understand the forms, and prepare questions before you submit paperwork.
Burial and Memorial Benefits
VA burial and memorial benefits may help eligible families with certain burial, funeral, plot, interment, transportation, headstone, marker, or memorial-related needs. We can help you understand the paperwork and where to start.
VA Caregiver and Family Support
If you are caring for a veteran, you may have questions about VA caregiver programs, forms, or family support resources. DAV Chapter 4 Tucson can help you understand available resources and connect you with the next step.
Who We Help
You do not need to know the name of the benefit before you contact us. You do not need to have every document ready. Start with what you have.
What to Bring If You Have It
Bring any paperwork you already have. Helpful documents may include:
- Veteran’s DD214 or discharge paperwork
- Death
- Marriage certificate
- VA letters or rating decisions
- Medical records related to the claim
- Social Security numbers for the veteran and claimant
- Bank information for direct deposit
- Any VA forms you started or received
If you do not have all of these, that is okay. We can still help you understand what may be needed.

Meet Our CSOs

U.S. Army, Vietnam Era
Bill Valdez has been a member of DAV Chapter 4 for nine years. He became involved after receiving help from a CSO himself and wants to help other veterans and their families access the benefits they’ve earned.
I help because I can. There is a great need to help veterans and their families.

U.S. Air Force
Sonny Hardy has served as a certified Chapter Service Officer with Chapter 4 for about six months. He assists veterans across claim areas and helps connect them with DAV support.
I know the struggle veterans have when they need help. I send them to DAV.
