FAQ

You don’t need to have everything figured out before you come in. But if you have any of the following, bring what you can — DD-214 (discharge paperwork), any prior VA rating decisions or letters, medical records related to your condition, a list of conditions you believe are connected to your service, and any correspondence you’ve received from the VA.
Don’t have all of this? Come anyway. Our CSOs will help you figure out what you need and where to get it.

A Chapter Service Officer — or CSO — is a trained, VA-accredited DAV member who volunteers to help fellow veterans navigate the claims process at no charge. CSOs complete a required DAV training and certification program, which means they know the claims process, understand your rights, and can represent you before the VA on your behalf — at every stage, from filing to appeal.

DAV CSOs do not charge fees. They do not take a percentage of your disability check. If anyone asks you to pay for help with your VA rating — or sign over a portion of your monthly benefit — walk away. That help is available here, free.

Chapter 4 is the only DAV chapter in the Tucson area with dedicated CSOs serving veterans in person.

There is no catch. DAV Chapter Service Officers are trained, VA-accredited volunteers who provide expert claims help at absolutely no cost. No fees. No percentage of your disability check. Ever. The service is free because our CSOs are DAV members who serve their fellow veterans.

Yes — that is exactly why we’re here. You don’t need to have paperwork ready or know anything about the claims process before you come in. Your CSO will explain your options, help you figure out what you may be entitled to, and walk you through every step.

No. A denial is not the end. You have options — including appeals and supplemental claims — and a DAV Chapter Service Officer can review your denial letter, explain what went wrong, and help you file at no cost.
